THE INNOVATION AND DESIGN THINKING [MINI-COURSE]

The Innovation and Design thinking Mini Course is recommended course for young and aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs. The course covers the introduction to innovation and design thinking and also the five phases of human centred design thinking:

– Empathy

– Define

– Ideate

– Prototype

– Testing

You will be required to complete the assessment test with a pass mark of over 70% to get certified. 

MODULE 1: INTRODUCTION

Introduction
12 minutes

In this module, you will learn the meaning of innovation and design thinking. You will understand the key features of human-centred design, the mindset of an innovator, and the three features of sustainable innovation.

The tutor will also introduce the stages of the design thinking process and the concept of divergence and convergence in design thinking. 

MODULE 2: DESIGN THINKING PROCESS

Empathy
1 hour

In this module, you will learn extensively the first stage of design thinking process - empathy.

You will learn the meaning of empathy, how to develop an empathy map, conduct market research, and understand the pain points and gain points of target users. You will learn about the user persona, the process of conducting interviews, and synthesizing your findings in order to define the problem.

Define
30 minutes

After understanding the empathy process, the define phase of design thinking is where you define the actual problem to form an actionable problem statement which will lead to the ideation stage.

You will learn the process of synthesizing your findings and generate an 'how might we' statement

Ideate
40 minutes

The ideation process is an interesting stage where the team brainstorms on ideas to solve the defined problems. In this module, you will learn the different ideation tools such as brainstorming, reverse brainstorming, mind mapping, etc and some rules guiding brainstorming process in order to generate creative ideas easily.

Prototype and Testing
25 minutes

The last two stages of the design thinking process - prototype and testing. In this module, you will learn how to build low-fi and high-fi prototypes and how to test them in the market. 

This lesson also emphasizes the fact that the design thinking process is not linear and encourages iteration.

Final Assessment
The final assessment tests your knowledge about the course. A grade of 70% or more is required to complete the course and get certified.
